Only One Mother
Summary
This poem is about how everything on planet Earth is available, but there is nothing like our mother. Everything will come and go, but your mother will always be there for you, no matter what.
Stanza-by-stanza explanation
Hundreds of stars
in the pretty sky,
Hundreds of shells
on the shore together,
Hundreds of birds
that go singing by,
Hundreds of lambs
in the sunny weather.
In the first stanza, the poet talks about how there are hundreds of stars in the sky, hundreds of shells on the shore and hundreds of birds and lambs.
Hundreds of dewdrops
to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees
in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies
on the lawn,
But only one mother
the wide world over.
In the second stanza, the poet goes on and gives us more examples about how we can see so many things around us but none of them like our mother.
