Components of Computers:

1. Hardware

Hardware includes all the physical parts of a computer that you can see and touch. It consists of electronic and mechanical components like the monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU, hard drive, printer, and other peripherals.

Hardware is further divided into:

  • Input Devices: Devices like a keyboard, mouse, and scanner are used to provide data to the computer.
  • Processing Unit: The CPU (Central Processing Unit) processes data and executes tasks.
  • Output Devices: Devices like a monitor, speakers, and printer that display or produce results.
  • Storage Devices: Hard drives, SSDs, and USB drives that store data permanently.

For example, the monitor displays output, while the keyboard provides input.

2. Software

Software consists of a set of commands, instructions, or programs that tell the hardware what to do. It enables the computer to process input data and generate output.

Software is divided into two types:

  • System Software: Programs like the operating system (e.g., Windows, Linux) that manage hardware and allow other software to run.
  • Application Software: Programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, or games designed for specific tasks.

For example, when you type in Microsoft Word (software), the data is processed and displayed on the monitor (hardware).
