A Mendelian experiment consisted of breeding pea plants bearing violet flowers with pea plants bearing white flowers. What will be the result in F1 progeny?

उत्तर

•We know that violet colour of the flowers is a dominant trait and the white colour of the flowers is recessive.

•When pea plant bearing white flowers is bred with a pea plant bearing white flowers the resulted F1 progeny would consist of all violet flowers.

•The result can be explained by looking at the following figure:

•The dominant violet flower is represented by VV where as the recessive white flower his represented by vv.

•On cross breeding, the two plants we get plants having the characters Vv, Vv, Vv and Vv. Since V (i.e. violet colour) is dominant all flowers are violet.
