How did Zitkala-Sa try to save her long hair?

When Zitkala-Sa heard that her hair was going to be cut, she ran away to a big room with three white beds and curtains. She got under a bed and hid in a dark spot. Even though she was called, she wouldn't come out. Even though Zitkala-Sa cried and tried to stop her mother and the other women from cutting her hair, they did it anyway.
