Three factors responsible for the growth of this industrial region are :
- The region is well connected by a network of roads and railways which helps in easy transportation of raw cotton for the cotton textile industry and the finished goods.
- Cheap hydroelectricity is readily available from the Western ghats.
- Cheap labor force can be drawn from the surrounding areas.
Mumbai is a very important port that helps in the import of machinery and the export of finished products. In addition to the cotton textile industry, chemicals, engineering goods, oil refineries, petrochemicals, fertilizers, shipbuilding, and automobile industries are also developed.
