प्रश्न
Define the following terms :
(a) Amplitude
(b) Frequency
(c) Time period.
उत्तर
Amplitude: The amplitude of particle executing S.H.M. is its maximum displacement on either side of the mean position. A is the amplitude of the particle.
Frequency: The frequency of a particle executing S.H.M. is equal to the number of oscillations completed in one second.
v = `omega/(2pi) = 1/(2pi) sqrt("k"/"m")`
Time Period: Time period of a particle executing S.H.M. is the time taken to complete one cycle and is denoted by T.
Time period (T) = `(2pi)/omega`
`= 2pi sqrt("m"/"k") "as" omega = sqrt("m"/"k")`

What determines the pitch of a sound?
Two identical guitars are played by two persons to give notes of the same pitch. Will they differ in quality? Give a reason for your answer.
What is meant by the ‘pitch’ of a note? Does it depend on the loudness or ‘quality’ of the ‘note’? How is pitch ‘related’ with frequency?
Two musical notes of the same pitch and loudness are played on a violin and a piano. Their waveforms are as shown in the figure below:
The diagram below shows three ways in which the string of an instrument can vibrate.

(ii) Which has the frequency 4 times that of the fundamental?
(iii) State the ratio between the frequency of the first and second.
