Basic Industries

Consumer Industries 

(i) The finished products of these industries are used by other industries. 

(i) The finished products of these are used as raw materials, directly consumed by consumers. 

(ii)For example, the iron and steel industry provides steel as raw material for machine tool-making or agricultural implements-making industry. 

(ii) For example, the medicines made in pharmaceutical industries are directly consumed by consumers. 

(iii) These industries supply their products to others. Hence, they are called linkage products. 

(iii) These industries supply their products to consumers. Hence, they are called consumer goods industries.

2. These are basic industries or heavy industries. These are light industries.
3. For example, the iron and steel industry, makes steel for further use in the automobile, heavy machinery and other industries. Watch- making, electronic goods, textile mills and pharmaceutical plants are examples.
