प्रश्न
Enlist some of the advantages of transpiration to green plants.
उत्तर
It helps to maintain the concentration of the sap inside the plant body. The roots continue to absorb water from the soil. If excess water does not evaporate through transpiration, the sap will become dilute, preventing further absorption of water and minerals from the soil.
The two main advantages of transpiration to green plants are as follows:
- Cooling effect: The water evaporates from the leaf surface during transpiration. The heat required for water evaporation is obtained from the plant itself; thus, the plant cools itself in a hot environment.
- Transpirational pull: The plant's roots pull more water from the soil to compensate for the water loss during transpiration. As a result, important mineral salts, which are essential for plant growth, are also brought along with the water from the soil.
