उत्तर
Semantic barriers to communication refer to barriers where there is a problem in decoding the message because of factors such as difficulty in interpretation, wrong translations, or wrong use of words. Some causes of semantic barriers:
- Badly expressed message: The term "badly expressed message" describes communication that is unclear, ambiguous, or poorly written, which can result in errors and misreading. A number of things, including improper language, technical jargon, or unclear idea communication, might cause this barrier. Communicators should make an effort to utilize succinct, plain language, offer examples or context when needed, and welcome feedback to guarantee knowledge in order to get beyond this obstacle.
- Symbols with different meanings: Symbols that have multiple meanings are visual or nonverbal clues that can be received differently by different people or cultures. When gestures, expressions, or symbols are utilized without taking into account their cultural, contextual, or individual meanings, a barrier may arise. Misunderstandings, confusion, or even conflict may result from the usage of symbols having different meanings in communication. Communicators can overcome this obstacle by using symbols carefully, being aware of cultural variations, and asking for clarification or providing context when needed to make sure that messages are understood appropriately and respectfully by a variety of audiences.
- Faulty translations: Sometimes, it may happen that there is a language barrier between workers such that the level of proficiency of a language may be different for the two. For instance, while managers may be proficient in English, workers may not be proficient in English. In such cases, information must be appropriately translated. However, in the process of translation, information may get misinterpreted.
- Unclarified assumptions: People who make assumptions about the meaning of words or concepts without checking or asking for clarification are said to be making unclarified assumptions. These assumptions, which can result in errors and poor communication, could be founded on individual convictions, prior experiences, or cultural biases. Unclarified assumptions may lead to the sharing of incorrect or partial information, which may have an impact on internal decision-making, problem-solving, and cooperation.
