प्रश्न

Explain with the help of a diagram, why the concave lens is also called a diverging lens.

उत्तर

A concave lense is curved inwards. Light passing through it diverges or spreads out. Think of a flashlight. The light from the small bulb passes through the lens and spreads out into a bigger beam on the other side. See the diagram given below.

An object 2 cm tall stands on the principal axis of a converging lens of focal length 8 cm. Find the position, nature and size of the image formed if the object is:
(i) 12 cm from the lens
(ii) 6 cm from the lens

(d) −4 D

A lens forms an upright and diminished image of an object irrespective of its position. What kind of lens is this?

A virtual diminished image is formed when an object is placed between the optical centre and the principal focus of a lens.

(i) Name the type of lens which forms the above image.
(ii) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of the image with the above stated characteristics.

A lens forms an image between the object and the lens. Name the lens.

Do we expect any change in the position, nature, and size of the image
(i) formed by a concave lens,
(ii) with a change in the position of the object?
