प्रश्न

Explain how eutrophication affects aquatic life.

संक्षेप में उत्तर

उत्तर

  1. Eutrophication is the removal of oxygen from aquatic bodies, which can occur naturally or due to human activities.
  2. Eutrophication occurs when nutrients and pollutants from home sewage, industrial effluents, and agricultural fertilizers enter the water.
  3. Algae and phytoplankton use carbon dioxide, inorganic nitrogen, and phosphate from water as nourishment. They serve as food for microscopic animals (zooplankton).
  4. Small fish feed on zooplankton, which larger fish then consume.
  5. As waste develops, phytoplankton and algae thrive due to the increased availability of nutrients.
  6. As a result, oxygen, light, and heat penetrate the water body less effectively. This kills most aquatic species and depletes the water's oxygen levels.
