Explain James - Lange theory?

It is one of the oldest theories of emotion. We perceive emotions as a result of our physical arousal, according to William James and Carl Lange. It claims that each emotion is associated with a distinct pattern of physiological arousal. So, according to them, we cry not because we are sad, but because we are sad. According to them, when an individual receives an emotional stimulus, he elicits a physiological response and then affectively experiences it.
