Explain the following term :
Heterozygous

उत्तर

Heterozygous:

The condition in which a pair of homologous chromosomes carries
dissimilar alleles for a particular character.

For example -
(i) A daughter (XXo) from a normal homozygous mother for colour vision (XX) anda colour blind father has one normal and one defective allele (XoY).
(ii) Certain tongue rollers are heterozygous with Rr genotype.

A pea plant pure for yellow seed colour is crossed with a pea plant pure for green seed colour. In the F1 generation all pea plants were with yellow seeds. Which law of Mendel is applicable?

What do you infer from the law of segregation?

Predict the genotype and phenotype of the following cross in pea.

TT x Tt

(Capital letters show dominance)

Dominant allele refers to ______.

When two genetic loci produce identical phenotypes in cis and trans position, they are considered to be ______.

Independent inheritance of two separate traits, shape and colour of seeds in Mendel’s cross on pea plants resulted in a observable ratio of ______.

Read the following and answer from given below:

Prashant wanted to find the genotype of a pea plant bearing purple coloured flowers in his kitchen garden. For this, he crossed purple-flowered plants with white-flowered plants. As a result, all plants which were produced had purple flowers only. Upon selfing these plants, 75 purple flower plants and 25 white flowers plants were produced. Now, he can determine the genotype of a purple-flowered plant by crossing it with a white-flowered plant.

In white-flowered plants, the allele is expressed in ______

Read the following and answer from given below:

According to Mendel, one gene controls the expression of one character only. The ability of a gene to have multiple phenotypic effects because it influences a number of characters are an exception. The gene has multiple phenotypic effects because its ability to control two or more characters can be seen in cotton. In cotton, a gene for the lint also influences the height of the plant, size of the ball, number of ovules, and viability of seeds.

Genes with multiple phenotypic effects are known as ______

Mendel blended his knowledge of science and mathematics to keep count of the individuals exhibiting a particular trait in each generation. He observed a number of contrasting visible characters controlled in pea plants in a field. He conducted many experiments to arrive at the laws of inheritance.

  1. What do the F1 progeny of tall plants with round seeds and short plants with wrinkled seeds look like?
  2. Name the recessive traits in the above case.
  3. Mention the type of the new combinations of plants obtained in F2 progeny along with their ratio, if F1 progeny was allowed to self-pollinate.

OR

If 1600 plants were obtained in F2 progeny, write the number of plants having traits:

  1. Tall with round seeds.
  2. Short with wrinkled seeds.

Write the conclusion of the above experiment.

A green stemmed tomato plant denoted by (GG) is crossed with a tomato plant with purple stem denoted by (gg).

  1. What colour of the stem would you expect in their F1 progeny?
  2. In what ratio would you find the green and purple coloured stem in plants of F2 progeny?
  3. What conclusion can be drawn for the above observations?
