प्रश्न

Explain the following.

Use of CO2 in fire extinguisher.

लघु उत्तरीय

उत्तर

Fuel, oxygen, and heat are the three components that cause fire. Fire will cease if any one of the three components is eliminated. One element, oxygen, is eliminated by carbon dioxide.

Because CO2 is heavier than oxygen, it blankets the fire. The fire is contained since there is no longer any contact between the fuel and oxygen. Consequently, fire extinguishers use CO2.
