Explain why the lines of longitude are called meridians of longitude?

Lines of longitude are lines which join all places having the same angular distance east or west of the Prime Meridian. All lines of longitude are semicircles of equal length. Lines of longitude are also called Meridians because of all places along lines of longitude experience mid-day at the same time.
