Why is earthworm called farmer's friend?

1. Earthworms move through the soil, loosening and aerating it. This allows water to quickly reach the roots.
2. Excreta from earthworms improve soil fertility. They are also useful in vermicomposting.
   As a result, they are known as the farmer's friends.
