प्रश्न

Heat of adsorption is greater for chemisorptions than physisorption. Why?

टिप्पणी लिखिए

उत्तर

Chemisorption has a higher heat of adsorption because in chemisorption the chemical bonds are much stronger. In the adsorbed state, the adsorbate is held on the surface of the adsorbent by attractive forces (bond) and chemisorption is an irreversible one. Therefore, the heat of adsorption is greater for chemisorptions than physisorption. Chemisorption, the heat of adsorption range 40-400 kJ/mole.
