Oliver Lutkins fooled the young attorney about his identity by disguising himself as Bill, the hack driver. When the attorney was unable to locate Lutkins, he went to his supervisor, who ordered him to return with someone who knew Lutkins. When they got there, they discovered "Bill," who his friend immediately recognised as Lutkins.
