1. Physical abuse: This includes striking, kicking, burning, biting, hair pulling, choking, throwing, shoving, whipping, or any other action that injures a child. Even if the parent or caregiver did not mean to cause injury, if the child is injured, then it is considered as abuse.
2. Sexual abuse: When an adult uses a child for sexual activities or involves a child in sexual acts, it is considered an abuse. It may also include an older child who may be a bully, using a weaker child for sexual gratification or excitement.
3. Emotional abuse: Rejecting or ignoring the children by not letting them express themselves, telling them that they are unwanted or unloved, not listening to the children, and validating their feelings are considered emotional abuse. Shaming children by criticising or demeaning them, terrorising them by accusing or blaming them, keeping them away from their friends and other stimulating activities, etc., all come under emotional abuse.
