Within the elastic limit, stress is directly proportional to strain.
Explanation:
- According to Hooke’s law,
Stress ∝ Strain
∴ `"Stress"/"Strain" = "constant"`
This constant of proportionality is called modulus of elasticity. - Modulus of elasticity of a material is the slope of the stress-strain curve in elastic deformation region and depends on the nature of the material.
