1. Flexibility: Road transport provides complete freedom of movement. If one road is blocked, the vehicle can be shifted to another as needed and convenient. The routes and times can be adjusted to suit individual requirements. Round-the-clock service is available. There are comparatively less delays in booking and delivery of goods.
2. Door-to-door service: Road transport provides complete service by loading the goods at the consignor's door and unloading them at the consignee's place. Goods can be loaded wherever they are and can be taken directly to their destination. No elaborate loading arrangements are required and less time is involved in transportation. There is no need to wait for full load shipment.
3. Economy: For short distances and small loads, road transport is quicker and more economical because the cost of loading and unloading at intermediate points is eliminated. The most direct and shortest route can be used. Costs of packing and handling of goods are also comparatively low.
4. Small Investment: The investment required in the construction and maintenance of roadways is lower than that of railways. The cost of a motor vehicle is much lower than that of a railway carriage. Costs of operation and maintenance of motor vehicles are comparatively low.
5. Less formalities: For relatively short distances, road transport is quicker than railways and water transport. There is no loss of time for carrying goods to and from stations.
