प्रश्न
Name the products formed when dilute \[\ce{HNO3}\] is added to copper.
उत्तर
When diluted nitric acid is applied to copper, copper nitrate, water, and the colourless gas nitrogen monoxide are generated.
\[\ce{3Cu + 8HNO3_{(dil)} -> \underset{Copper nitrate}{3Cu(NO3)2} + 4H2O + 2NO-}\]
Nitrogen monoxide then combines with air, producing reddish-brown emissions of nitrogen dioxide.
\[\ce{2NO + O2 -> \underset{Nitrogen dioxide}{2NO2}}\]
