  1. The major goal of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and Revised, i.e. revisions made to the Consumer Protection Act in 2019, is the prompt and economical resolution of consumer complaints. To accomplish this goal, the Act establishes a three-tier quasi-judicial consumer dispute resolution mechanism at the district, state, and national levels.
  2. A 'District Commission' is a consumer redressal organization formed by the state government in each district to provide relief or settle issues of customers who protest against manufacturers or traders. It is made up of a president and two other members chosen by the state government.
  3. The District Commission is in charge of a specific district. According to revisions to the Consumer Protection Act of 1986, it now has the authority to hear complaints if the value of goods or services, including any compensation, does not exceed ₹ one crore .
  4. The District Commission's ruling or order is binding on both parties. If a person is dissatisfied with the District Commission's decision, he may appeal to the State Commission within 45 days following the decision. As a result, an order issued by the District Commission on a complaint is not final.
