प्रश्न

State two important reasons that prompted the British to withdraw from India.

संक्षेप में उत्तर

उत्तर

The British exit from India was graceful, and Prime Minister Attlee played a commendable role. However, the withdrawal was mainly driven by two factors:

  1. Although Britain won the war, its economic and military power was severely damaged. It would take many years for Britain to recover.
  2. The British government could no longer depend on Indians for civil administration or the army to suppress the national movement. The INA had shown that patriotic ideas had spread within the Indian army, which was a key tool for British control in India.
