The sum of two rational numbers is ${\displaystyle \frac{-3}{8}}$. If one of them is ${\displaystyle \frac{3}{16}}$ find the other,

Sum of two numbers = ${\displaystyle \frac{-3}{8}}$

One number = ${\displaystyle \frac{3}{16}}$

∴ Second number = ${\displaystyle \frac{-3}{8}-\frac{3}{16}}$

L.C.M. of 8 and 16 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 16

${\displaystyle =\frac{-3\times 2}{8\times 2}-\frac{3\times 1}{16\times 1}}$

(∵ L.C.M. of 8 and 16 = 16)

${\displaystyle =\frac{-6-3}{16}=\frac{-9}{16}}$

∴ Second number = ${\displaystyle \frac{-9}{16}}$
