The byproducts of fertiliser industries are oxides of nitrogen and sulphur, other liquid chemicals and some solid waste material.
The oxides of nitrogen and sulphur cause acid rain which is highly destructive to forests, crops, aquatic biota and historical buildings. Chemicals from liquid and solid wastes percolate through the soil causing soil pollution. It also causes a decrease in soil fertility. Liquid chemicals, if discharged directly into a water body, will cause the death of aquatic animals.
