Generally, oxidation and reduction occur in the same reaction (simultaneously). If one reactant gets oxidized, the other gets reduced. Such reactions are called oxidation-reduction ‘ reactions or Redox reactions.
Ex: 2 PbO + C ➝ 2Pb + C02
