The traits of an organism that are not inherited, but develop in response to the environment, are called acquired traits. For example, if a mouse's tail gets cut, the cut tail is an acquired trait.The trait of an organism that is caused by a change in its genes is called an inherited trait. Inherited traits can be passed on to the progeny of the organism. For example, eye colour in humans is an inherited trait
