What is meant by the term 'Non-Aligned Movement'

Non-Alignment is the international policy of a sovereign State according to which it does not align itself to any of the power blocs. However, at the same time, it actively participates in international affairs with a view to preserve and promote world peace, harmony and cooperation. The Non-Aligned Movement was launched by the newly independent colonies of Asia and Africa in order to preserve their sovereignty and avoid getting dragged into the Cold War.
