1. Social mobilisation: Social mobilisation is an important tool for poverty alleviation. In India, the Social Mobilisation for Poverty Alleviation project has also been started. The primary aim of social mobilisation is to mobilise people's organisations for development and, thus, poverty alleviation. At the same time, the specific focus on women's groups and women's empowerment is undertaken by the Indian Government. The villagers' groups called Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are formed. These groups assess the village requirements, and decisions are made on the basis of these assessments, such as where wells would be deepened, or farm bunds would be built.
2. Agricultural development: Increases in food production per hectare have not kept pace with increases in the population, and the planet has virtually no more arable land or fresh water to spare. As a result, per-capita cropland has shrunk by more than half since 1960, and per-capita production of grains, the basic food, has been falling worldwide for 20 years.
3. Small-scale industries: Small-scale industries are important to a nation's building. Small-scale industries are the channel through which fast industrial development can be achieved. They are also the backbone of the market economy and play an important role in poverty alleviation.

4. Human development: Poverty reduction has been the overriding objective of development planning in India. Poverty is a multi-faceted phenomenon going beyond a lack of adequate income. It prevents the affected people from participating as equals in the development process.
   Adequate precautions should be taken to protect the poor sections of society. This can be done by increasing the allocation of resources to the poor in the national plan.
