On February 5th, 1922 a mass procession took over by the nationalists and the peasants.
Gandhiji advised them not to indulge in any violence. Provoked by the police the people turned into violence. The angry mob burnt the police station killing 22 policemen.
Gandhiji was upset and immediately withdrew the movement.
