दीर्घउत्तर

उत्तर

Garidhiji's "finest hours" were certainly the months after Independence.

  1. It was built on his efforts to promote racial harmony. He pleaded for peace within the Hindu, Muslim community.
  2. Then, in the riot-torn areas of Calcutta (Bengal), Gandhiji urged the Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims to put the past behind them and forge a spirit of mutual trust. He also gave them the opportunity to take an oath of peace.
  3. He pushed for friendship and understanding between the two groups. He made an effort to promote a climate of trust and confidence within the communities.
  4. After establishing peace in Bengal, he departed for Delhi. He intended to proceed from here to the riot-torn districts of Punjab. While he was in the city, refugees who objected to readings from the Koran interrupted him. Many shouted abuse at him and questioned why he hadn't brought up the plight of the Hindus and Sikhs who still lived in Pakistan.
  5. "Gandhiji was equally concerned with the plight of the minority group in Pakistan," asserts D.G. Tendulkar. He wanted to help them.
  6. The final result of Gandhiji's struggle was his death on January 30, 1948. He gave a lot up to serve the country.
