प्रश्न

Why is a magnetic needle used in a compass?

लघु उत्तरीय

उत्तर

The Earth behaves as a magnet with its magnetic South Pole coinciding with the geographic North Pole and magnetic North Pole coinciding with the geographic South Pole. Thus, in a compass, a magnetic needle is used to show the geographic north direction by aligning itself in the magnetic south pole of the Earth.
