Without solving, comment upon the nature of roots of the following equation:
2x2 + 8x + 9 = 0

2x2 + 8x + 9 = 0
a = 2, b = 8 and c = 9
∴ Discriminant = b2 – 4ac
= (8)2 – 4(2)(9)
= 64 – 72
= – 8
= a negative value
Since D < 0, then equation has no real roots.
