When there is an infection or injury, the concentration of specific plasma proteins, known as acute phase proteins or APPs, rises dramatically.

C-reactive protein (CRP), Mannose-binding protein, Alpha-1- acid glycoprotein, serum Amyloid P, and others are examples.

APPs boost host resistance, reduce tissue damage, and promote the healing of inflammatory lesions.
