प्रश्न
Write a short note on Follow-on.
उत्तर
In cricket, the follow-on rule has the ability to make the team batting second bat immediately after their first inning ends.
In test cricket, a team batting first must secure a lead of at least 200 runs in the first inning before the follow-on can be implemented. In shorter two-inning games, the same choice will be offered with the following minimum leads:
- 150 runs over three or four days in a match.
- 100 runs over two days of play.
- In a one-day match, 75 runs.
If a captain wants to exercise this option, he or she must inform the umpires and the opposing captain. The choice is final once communicated. In a multi-day match, if there is no play on the first day, the team batting first scores at least 200 runs in the first inning, with the number of days remaining from the start of play taken into account. For all intents and purposes, the day the play opens will be considered a complete day, regardless of the time the play begins.
