Role of peer group in middle childhood

Peer groups have positive and negative influences on development.
Positive Influence: Giving attention and getting attention, acceptance, developing guidelines for healthy competition, thus encouraging children to grow in a positive manner, encourages to develop self-identity and independence. It shows acceptable ways to express emotions.
Negative Influence: It is related to bullying behaviour, drinking alcohol, drug abuse and negative body image, all are harmful to their growth and development. It affects self-confidence, self-worth and distance from family members and friends. Antisocial peer group increases antisocial behaviour.
