The condition of slaves in ancient Rome.

When Rome was old, slaves did not have any freedom or rights. They were owned by people and had to do what their masters said, even if it was cruel or unfair. A lot of slaves were overworked, went hungry, and were often treated very badly. They were forced by law to serve their masters for life, so they couldn't get away.
