प्रश्न

An object is placed at a distance of 10 cm from a concave mirror of focal length 20 cm.

Calculate the image distance.

उत्तर

 Image Distance-

Distance of the object from the mirror 'u' = −10 cm
Focal length of the concave mirror 'f' = −20 cm
We have to find the distance of the image 'v'.
Mirror Formula:
`1/f=1/v+1/u`
Therefore
`1/(-20)=1/v+1/(-10)`
`1/v=-1/20+1/10=-1/20+1/20`
`1/v=1/20`
v=20cm
Thus, the distance of the image 'v' is 20 cm.

While looking at the above diagram, Nalini concluded the following.

  1. the image of the object will be a virtual one.
  2. the reflected ray will travel along the same path as the incident ray but in opposite direction.
  3. the image of the object will be inverted.
  4. this is a concave mirror and hence the focal length will be negative.

Which one of the above statements are correct?
