What is the role of UNESCO in the context of heritage sites?
उत्तर
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a global organization which has specified some directives for the educational, cultural and scientific promotion of the heritage sites globally. On the basis of these directives, many sites and traditions are chosen as world heritage sites and natural heritage. They have listed about 40 sites in India as world heritage sites some are - Elephanta caves (Maharashtra), Hampi (Karnataka), Humayun's Tomb (Delhi), Qutub Minar (Delhi), and Taj Mahal (Agra) and many more.
UNESCO works to protect and safeguard heritage so that future generations can enjoy, benefit and learn from the legacy of the past. For UNESCO, the safeguarding of heritage is a collective responsibility, as well as a powerful means of promoting peace – uniting the world's peoples around shared values.
