When the winds blow from south-west to north-east directions in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, they cause local storms called “Norwesters” in the northeastern part of India during the summer season. Thus thunderstorms are also called Kalbaisakhi (of the month of Baisakh) in Punjab.
