The major roads constructed and maintained by the central government are known as National highways.	The major roads constructed and maintained by the state government are known as State highways.
The important roads connected by national highways are state capitals, industrial centres, major: ports and foreign highways.	The roads connected by state highways are state capitals to the district headquarters and other major cities in the state.
