उत्तर

Monohybrid cross Dihybrid cross

The cross in which only one pair of contrasting characters is involved is known as a monohybrid cross.

The cross in which only two pairs of contrasting characters are involved is known as a dihybrid cross.
A monohybrid cross is useful in determining the dominance of genes.

A dihybrid cross is useful in studying the assortment of the offspring.

example: a cross between a tall and dwarf plant.
example: a cross between a tall plant having a red flower and a dwarf plant having a white flower.

Mendel published his work on inheritance of characters in 1865, but it remained unrecognised till 1900. Give three reasons for the delay in accepting his work.

Using a Punnett square, work out the distribution of phenotypic features in the first filial generation after a cross between a homozygous female and a heterozygous male for a single locus.

In Mendel’s experiments, tall pea plants (T) are dominant over dwarf pea plants (t).
State Mendel’s Law of Dominance.

Dominant

One of the reasons why law of segregation of gametes is universally applicable, is ______.

When two genetic loci produce identical phenotypes in cis and trans position, they are considered to be ______.

Who is regarded as the father of genetics?

Two pea plants one with round green seeds (RRyy) and another with wrinkled yellow (rrYY) seeds produce F1 progeny that have round, yellow (RrYy) seeds. When F1 plants are selfed, the F2 progeny will have new combination of characters. Choose the new combination from the following:

  1. Round, yellow
  2. Round, green
  3. Wrinkled, yellow
  4. Wrinkled, green

In the human blood grouping, the four basic blood types are type A, type B, type AB, and type O. They are ______

Read the following and answer from given below:

Prashant wanted to find the genotype of a pea plant bearing purple coloured flowers in his kitchen garden. For this, he crossed purple-flowered plants with white-flowered plants. As a result, all plants which were produced had purple flowers only. Upon selfing these plants, 75 purple flower plants and 25 white flowers plants were produced. Now, he can determine the genotype of a purple-flowered plant by crossing it with a white-flowered plant.

Which of the following cannot be derived from the crosses done by Prashant?

The maternal grandfather of a boy is colorblind, but his maternal grandmother is normal. The father of the boy is also normal. What is the probability of this boy being colorblind?

A male plant bearing red flowers was crossed with a female plant bearing yellow flowers. In the F1 generation, all the flowers were orange in colour.

Mention the ratio of red flowers, yellow flowers and orange flowers in the F2 generation.
