प्रश्न

Do you think that the Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930 marked the entry of women on the Indian political scene? Did it have any effect on the position of women?

थोडक्यात उत्तर

उत्तर

The Civil Disobedience Movement encouraged women to leave their homes and take part in politics, making them equal partners in the freedom struggle. During Gandhiji's Salt March, thousands of women came to listen to him and joined the movement. They took part in protests, made salt, and picketed foreign cloth and liquor shops. Many of them even went to jail. Inspired by Gandhiji, they saw serving the nation as their sacred duty.

However, this involvement did not change their social position. The Congress was hesitant to give women any real positions of authority and mostly wanted them to have a symbolic presence in the organisation.
