Graphite
Diamond is an extremely hard material. Graphite is black, soft and smooth.
In the diamond crystal, each carbon atom is linked to four other carbon atoms at specific distances. In graphite, six carbon atoms form a hexagon and are at specific distances from each other. Within each layer every carbon atom has three carbon atoms around it at equal distances.
Diamond is Bad conductor of electricity. Graphite is Good conductor of heat and electricity.
It is used, as an ornament, to cut glass and in drilling machines. It is used as lubricant.
