The procedure for the substitution during the play is:
- Substitution must be performed within the substitution zone.
- A substitution is only valid for the time it takes to mark the substitution on the scoresheet and allow the players to enter and exit.
- The coach or team captain must request a substitution from the first or second referee by using the official hand signal and mentioning the number of substitutions.
- The scorer or second referee acknowledges and announces the request for substitution using the buzzer or whistle as appropriate. The second referee authorises the substitution.
