प्रश्न
Explain the theory of the divine origin of the caste system.
उत्तर १
According to the traditional theory of the divine origin of the caste system, as given in ‘ManusmritV (a Hindu text), the different castes were created from different parts of the creator himself. From the mouth of the creator emerged the Brahmins, from the arms, emerged the Kshatriyas, from his thighs, emerged the Vaishyas and from his feet emerged the Shudras.
उत्तर २
Divine origin theory owes its origin to ancient literature. It believes that caste has a divine origin. This theory states that the caste system was created by Brahma, the supreme creator. This theory says that Brahmins originated from the mouth, Kshatriya from arms, Vaishyas from the stomach and Sudras from the feet of Brahma.
According to the Divine Origin theory of the caste system, the main duties of a Brahmin are practising, studying and teaching Vedas.
Kshatriya is given the task of protection of people and nations through showing bravery in war. Vaishyas are given the task of providing essential commodities to society. The main Dharma or responsibility of Sudras is to serve the other three Vamas.
