- If he hits the ball, the two batsmen may score runs. When the runs are completed, the ball is also considered completed.

- The umpire is satisfied that, with adequate reason, the batsman is not ready to receive the ball and makes no attempt to play it.
- The ball lodges in the clothing or equipment of a batsman or the clothing of an umpire.
