Give reason for the following:
silver nitrate solution can be used to distinguish HCl from HNO3

Silver nitrate reacts with hydrochloric acid to form thick curdy white ppt. of silver chloride whereas silver nitrate does not react with nitric acid.
AgNO3 + HCl → AgCl + HNO3
