Give reason for the following:

Vegetative propagation is practised for growing only some type of plants.

Why is vegetative propagation practised for growing some types of plants?

थोडक्यात उत्तर

उत्तर १

Vegetative propagation is the ability of plants to reproduce by producing new plants from vegetative plant parts such as leaves, stems, or roots under appropriate conditions. This method is the only means of reproduction for some seedless plant varieties such as banana, rose, and jasmine. However, this reproduction method is also used for agricultural purposes in commercial production of some plants such as sugarcane, grapes, roses, etc.

उत्तर २

Vegetative propagation is practised for growing only some types of plants because of the following reasons:

  1. This strategy can be used to propagate plants that have lost their ability to generate seeds.
  2. Growing plants with superior features is advantageous since they share the same genetics as their parent plant.
  3. It is used to develop plants that require more time to grow and mature.

However, there are certain disadvantages such as:

  1. There are no genetic differences, there is less adaptability to the environment.
  2. The disease of plants gets transferred to the offspring.
